THE BEGINNING OF TODAY'S PREVALENT ERRORS IN THE CHURCH - WHERE IT STARTED AND ITS IMPACT ON THE AFRICAN CHURCH
The beginning of today's prevalent errors in the church, especially as it affects Africa, started with the present generation in the late 1970s. It came in closely related stages. The related stages can be summarized to include the following:
STAGE I - The development of New Thinking from the West especially from the United States. It was a new thinking that questioned the Biblical teaching of Christian awaiting to have their rewards in heaven and not on Earth.
Though the New Thinking had started in early 1950s it became full blown in the 70s. It was actively promoted through the writings of authors by the the likes of E. W. Kenyon, Oral Roberts, A. A. Allen, T. L. Osborn, Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland and others. These authors were early promoters of the Prosperity Theology - The Prosperity Gospel, The Health and Wealth Gospel, The Gospel of Success or Seed Faith.
STAGE II - The rise of Pentecostal Churches - The Classical and the latter day [New] Pentecostals, with their errors of misplaced emphasis and misinterpretations of certain aspects of the Biblical Truths of Pentecostalism.
STAGE III - The rise of Africa's brand of Pentecostalism led by those who came out of Africa Traditional Religion into Christianity but with a carry over of several aspects of the Africa Traditional beliefs into Christian beliefs under the guise of Practical Christianity.
This group includes the Aladura Groups of Churches, the White Garments Churches of the Cherubim and Seraphim, the Celestia Churches of Christ, the Mountain of Fire, and today's celebrated Redeemed Christian Church of God, which was then very little known under its leader and founder, Late Pa Josiah Akindayomi.
STAGE IV - The coming on stage of the Africa Indigenous Churches [AIC]. the Independent Mega Churches and the incursion of some practices of the Africa Readitional Religion [ATR] into the Africa Indigenous Churches - AIC.
V - The untrained Pastors. Professionals who are gifted speakers, Motivational Speakers occupying the Pulpits as Pastors, Founders and General Overseers.
